I called the store, and Darren (sorry if name is misspelled) was very helpful and got me set up with an assortment of different sizes of cardboard 2×2 coin flips. From what I could tell after checking just about every online store for shops in town, Kelowna Precious Metals seems to be the only place that carries these cardboard coin flips, and he gave me them at a very reasonable price. I will definitely be going back when I need more flips, only thing now is finding something to store the flips in. From my short visit to the shop, the owner seemed kind and professional, and the shop itself looked fairly tidy. It was kind of cool too because when I went in, Darren had been looking at one of the black Toonies from 2022 (commemorative coin for the Queen’s death) that he had gotten earlier in the day, and told me a bit of cool info about it that I didn’t know. REVIEW #9 – My wife and I were going through some of our “stuff” in our continuing effort to get organized. In the course of doing that we came across some old coins and jewelry.
We didn’t know who to contact to have these items valued so we took to the web and found Darin of Kelowna Precious Metals Coin Currency & Collectibles. Darin and his company had a great Google rating so we decided to give him a call.
In our initial phone call we asked Darin a number of questions about what coins and jewelry are worth and the best approach to valuing them. He was very helpful, informative and didn’t rush us. He answered all of our questions thoroughly and said that if we wanted him to evaluate our belongings that he’d be happy to set up an appointment for that purpose. Given our first impression of him, we decided to waste no time and set up an appointment for later the same day.
Upon arrival at Darin’s storefront location in downtown Kelowna, he set out to give us a brief history of his experience in collectibles and precious metals. To say the least, we were impressed. He has a vast knowledge of these areas of interest and an incredible memory for times and events in history.
He proceeded to review our belongings and explained what everything was worth and why. With respect to coin collectibles, he gave us a great education on the difference between numismatic value and raw material value.
At the end of our visit Darin presented us with a value for each category of asset we brought to him and a total of what he’d pay us for them should we wish to sell.
We felt absolutely no pressure at all to sell to Darin, and as a matter of fact, he told us that before we made any decision about our items that may hold sentimental value to give it some time before proceeding.
Darin has over 38 years of experience in evaluating, buying and selling collectibles and precious metals and is clearly an expert in his field. He was honest, forthright and genuine. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking guidance with their “treasures”. – William Head
