REVIEW #9 – Needed some cash while holidaying and I always carry some fractional Au & Ag. I had a 1g Perth Mint Minted and 4 oz of various Silver coins ( 125th anniversary and dragon rectangular coins). The gold bar was readily accepted but the Silver bullion seemed to cause a slight stir in that it was obviously not commonplace to trade Silver. Fortunately a senior assistant must have realised the Perth Mint and/or 9999 marks and after a few calls I was able to also sell them.
You will of course require to have your passport ready and your Thai contact number (I had a DTAC sim but your accommodation number is also fine).
Prior to attending Shining Gold I calculated a total (at spot) of around 7900 baht (gross) and was offered 7590 so their spot premium/commission was pretty good.
Signed off on the offer, taken to their accounting floor and was paid in cash. Total duration was about 40-45 mins but only due to the aforementioned Silver sale.
Good security and had at least two English speaking assistants.
Excellent location right across from Sam Yot MRT.
I didn’t bother looking up any dealers on Yaowarat road and just went with instinct, not to say there weren’t as good options but Shining Gold turned out quite satisfactory. – Glenn Ham
